Passion
My passion is GIVING BACK! I believe we all have a duty to leverage our talents and resources to help our communities—the communities we live in, the communities we work with, the communities we call family. To me, it’s not a "duty"; it’s part of my DNA—and I truly love it. I am SO fortunate that I found Broomfield Community Foundation when we moved to Colorado in 2018—or maybe it found me! Either way, I consider it a blessing to work alongside my fellow Board members and with the organizations and people we strive to help. We truly work hard to live up to our ultimate goal of Creating a Stronger Broomfield Together.
Professional Background
I am a self-professed geek. I graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering and later earned an MBA. I’ve spent my entire career in some way affiliated with the automotive industry—starting out with manufacturers like General Motors and Bosch, then eventually moving into the aftermarket side with companies like AutoZone. I’ve been with Interstate Batteries the last several years, and I can say they are by far the most community-oriented company I’ve ever worked for—with corporate values that include “Servant’s Heart,” “Love,” and “Community – Together we’re Better.”
Personal Insights
We have a multi-generational and diverse family! We moved here in 2018, and I live on the east side of Broomfield in the McKay Shores neighborhood with my husband Brad, his mother Gisela, my son Nate, and daughter Anna. Brad’s mom was born and raised in Germany, and we adopted our kids from South Korea when they were babies. Brad hails from Nebraska, and I was raised in Niagara Falls, NY. We’ve lived in Michigan, South Carolina, Germany, and Tennessee—so we’re a pretty eclectic bunch! We love to travel (give me a beach!) and aquariums are a family favorite.
Nate is currently at CSU and Anna is at CU Boulder, which is great that they’re so close (especially for this mama bear). I can say Brad is very conflicted about Anna being at CU, since he played for Nebraska in college back in the Big 12 rivalry days—but he’s a good sport about it most of the time!
Since moving here, Brad and I have truly embraced the Colorado life. While we don’t ski, we’ve discovered a love of hiking and head all over the area to try out new trails. We’ve also become truly addicted to hot yoga—sculpt, Vinyasa flow, all of it! The hotter, the better! It’s great to have studios so close to us here in Broomfield as well as in nearby Westminster. We truly love living here.
My Superpower
I have to admit, this is a tough one—but after some thought, what came to mind is work ethic. I’ve worked hard all my life to achieve a goal or tackle a problem. I believe we all have innate abilities and talents, but sometimes that isn’t enough and you simply have to dig in and work hard. While I’m not sure I believe the adage “you can do anything you want if you put your mind to it” (e.g., I could not be a brain surgeon no matter how hard I tried), I do believe you can surprise yourself with what you can accomplish with effort—especially if in the end it helps others.
Favorite Broomfield Amenities/Park
We have great Broomfield amenities right in my neighborhood! On days we aren’t able to get to a trailhead to hike, I love walking around McKay Lake at McKay Lake Park. It’s so nice to have easy access to such a pretty area with different paths you can take. The bike park there is always busy, and there are always families near the playground and soccer fields. I sometimes wish we had moved here when the kids were younger!
